VENGEANCE
Peace Comes From Within. Death Comes From Without.
A member of the order of shadow monks, Amit's every waking moment is spent training his body and mind to the peak of human ability - and beyond. But the order is pacifist, a repository for deadly weapons with their safeties permanently set to "on."
Until everything is taken from him, and Amit decides that turning the other cheek is no longer an option.
Now, every ounce of his training will be put to the test. His epic quest for revenge will see wrongs righted - or see Amit forgotten in an unmarked grave. What will be, will be. It's a Zen thing.
*** VENGEANCE is the first act of the full Namaste book
VENGEANCE was written as a complete adventure that readers could enjoy for free. You can enjoy VENGEANCE fully, without reading the journey to follow. The full book includes the complete epic adventure.
*** Readers Love Realm & Sands. Here's What They're Saying About Namaste
"Having read just about everything that these guys have written (separately and together), I absolutely loved it! Suspense, mystery, mysticism, monks, murder, love, fear, blood, revenge...just about anything you could imagine (all crammed into this one episode!). I'm still trying to wrap my brain around Amit. Do I love him? Do I hate him? Is he justified in his actions or a man gone over the edge? Knowing Sean and Johnny, no matter what I decide, they'll blow it out of the water! Can't wait to read more. Well done guys!"
"Screw these guys. I have things to do but I decided to load this just to check out a serial on kindle and now I'm hooked. My dogs need to be fed, I need to change the oil in my car and I'm not sure where my infant son is. But I know where I'll be for the foreseeable future sitting on my ass reading the sequels."
"Sean Platt, Johnny Truant, and David Wright are masters of their craft. They excel at taking all that is good and fun from episodic t.v. and monthly comics and crafting well written stories. Namaste is no exception. A tale of love, loss, and vengeance with their special skewed vision. Like the Punisher main character Amit is almost instantly likable and even before you learn his reasoning you know that he is justified in his pursuit. Like all of the authors books I look forward to the continuing adventures of Amit."
"In Namaste, Platt and Truant deftly sketch out the background, setting, and characters of their latest serial with minimal description and brief snatches of dialog, keeping the action at a fever pitch in a high-intensity Hong Kong cinema style thriller. Punctuated by scenes of graphic violence, the experiment in non-linear storytelling is effective for this short action-oriented installment. Over the course of a longer story, the back-and-forth narrative flow might grow tedious or confusing, but here the approach lends a filmic flair to the introduction of "a pacifist monk on a rampage." Fans of Chow Yun Fat or John Woo films looking for a literary equivalent should appreciate this latest Platt & Truant effort."
*** WARNING Namaste is the most violent thing Realm & Sands has so far written.

VENGEANCE Namaste Book 1 eBook Sean Platt Johnny B Truant Realm and Sands Reviews
The story of the young boy being taken and raised by monks reminds me of Kung Fu (with David Carradine), but the comparison ends there. Amit is no Kwai Chang Caine, and Amit's quest is not to escape and find his brother, but to pursue and enact revenge on those who've wronged him.
This was is a great beginning to a modern day monk's story, where his world is turned upside down. In many ways, Amit didn't fit in with the peaceful world of the monastery in which he'd been raised, anyway, so...
This is only the first story of Amit, which is now continued in Namaste The Whole Story
Peace Comes From Within. Death Comes From Without.
In Namaste, Platt and Truant deftly sketch out the background, setting, and characters of their latest serial with minimal description and brief snatches of dialog, keeping the action at a fever pitch in a high-intensity Hong Kong cinema style thriller. Punctuated by scenes of graphic violence, the experiment in non-linear storytelling is effective for this short action-oriented installment. Over the course of a longer story, the back-and-forth narrative flow might grow tedious or confusing, but here the approach lends a filmic flair to the introduction of "a pacifist monk on a rampage." Well, this prologue intro to a tale of revenge ( retribution?) features a pretty un-monkly monk. Now he does think and speak as if he believes, but, he has a very peculiar and personal interpretation of his orders doctrines. Oh yeah and he's seriously pissed-off too. While an interesting premiss for a story, c'mon I mean a deadly-ass monk with a vendetta?, the jumpy timeline story telling is bit hard to follow. All-in-all though I would like to know how its going to end.
If you were a trained killer taught to be a pacifist, would you let those skills go unused when someone you love is taken from you? That's the dilemma facing Amit, a monk practitioner of Sri. Anyone standing in his way as he makes his way up the criminal hierarchy pays a heavy price. Vengeance is a serious action story, drenched in violence and punctuated with humor.
I liked this story a lot. The writing is solid, as I've come to expect from Sean and Johnny. The character is interesting and the action is good, presumably because Johnny wrote it. Ha!
Vengeance would make a sweet action movie. I'd love to see Iko Uwais, the amazingly talented lead in The Raid Redemption, play Amit. Great story! I look forward to getting to Namaste soon.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Something a bit different and well written. It reminded me of Memento, the way it was told backwards. It took me a few chapters to catch on but the language and the main characters thought process, which the reader thoroughly get to examine for better or worse, kept me stuck in the story, even though I wasn’t completely certain of the time line. I usually don’t read chapter titles and in this case, they were important. I'll be more careful next time.
I would categorize Vengeance in the horror/fantasy genre. It has elements of both. If you enjoyed Karate Kid and Blade, this might be right up your alley. There’s humor, tragedy, vengeance of course and a twist to the story that’s well set up and made me leave it nodding my head and thinking, yes, that’s where it was going all along, but I didn’t realize it.
I think this is the authors' introduction to a series -- there was really no plot other than demonstrate the violence the main character was capable of demonstrating. The chapters skipped around in time starting from the ending scene and working back to the beginning. This actually helped in keeping my interest in the book. If the time line were presented linearly from beginning to end the simple, one-dimensionality of the main character would have been more apparent. I won't read the rest of the series.
"Namaste Episode One" is a modern day urban tale by co-authors Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant. This e-book was approximately 44 printed pages and free at the time of writing this review.
Spoilers (general theme)
Amit is a monk... a monk trained in the arts of martial combat and with the skill to take on a small force. When his girlfriend is murdered through an apparent contract killing, Amit's normally quiet and composed attitude is severely tested. A story of revenge and retribution against wrongs unjustly delivered... and how sweet it is.
End Spoilers
Some thoughts on "Namaste"...
1,) a well written tale that is told in reverse order... where the book opens near the ending and then goes back in time with subsequent chapters to explain how the finale came to be. A technique that work well for this action laden tale.
2.) gruesome and gory, but because the villains are so arrogant and cocky, each comeuppance dealt out had me grinning a little wider.
3.) Amit is a likable hero... a solitary figure who possesses a sense of morality and justice, and who the readers can easily root for, despite his grisly and very personalized mission.
Impressions
A great short story that may be the forerunner of more episodes to come.
This type of tale, where a lone hero takes on the minions of evil and succeeds, is one of my favorites. You start by knowing how the story is going to end, but it's the journey to the destination, rather than the arrival, that is the consummate joy and the special satisfaction that accompanies this type of tale.
I'm hoping this is one of the series that the authors are planning to continue.
As it is... 5 Stars
